Canister Filters mean BUSINESS!
Why screw around with anything but the best when it comes to filtration?! Canister filters are the best on the market and spending that little extra money WILL PAY off in the long run. Here are two top rated canisters from different price points.
Hang on the Back Filters are OK
There are a couple of great HOB filters on the market but it all comes down to RESEARCH… Lucky for you we have that handled! The Aquaclear 110 has been the “jesus of HOB filters” for quite some time. The next best are the Emperor 400 and new AquaTop ones.
Water Changers: Embrace Technology!
Fish aquariums NEED to have their water changed out every so often. That’s where “water changers” come in. This is a device that hooks up to your sink and will push and pull water out of your aquarium. NO MORE using buckets! This will change your life! There are two leading brands right now. The Python and Aqueon brands. The Python is a little better quality but it does cost more. Here is an Amazon link
Brand Name Heaters?!?
Most of the cool fish in this industry are TROPICAL.. which means you need heated water. This industry is polluted with terrible quality heaters! Two problems occur here: 1.) Your fish usually become sick because of the cold water.. 2.) the crappy heater uses 3x the amount of electricity and still can’t get the job done… BUY A QUALITY heater and thank me later!
Quit Buying Crappy Food!&#
If your fish food is sold at Walmart.. it’s TERRIBLE quality! Buy your fish a variety of different foods. I highly advise feeding frozen or freeze dried at least once every couple days.. then supplement some flakes or pellets in between. VARIETY is a huge key to success. Do you want to eat the same food everyday?? didn’t think so. Here is a great freeze dried food sold on Amazon.
Air Pump & Sponge Filters are Super POWERFUL
You would be surprised how powerful sponge filters are! Not to mention it’s a great backup plan if your main filter stops working. And on top of that.. those air bubbles floating to the surface are adding a LOT of oxygen to the tank. Adding an air pump with sponge filters is always a good idea. Fancy Lights are YOUR Choice
You don’t need a fancy light for your aquarium to operate correctly.. that’s your decision to make. It really depends on if you want live plants to grow or not. It might be worth going with an LED light to achieve super brightness while also lowering your electrical usage. Here is a top rated light that puts out crazy brightness while still being one of the cheapest on the market.
The Rest is Your CHOICE
The other variables are up to you.. gravel or sand.. fake plants.. driftwood.. wavemakers ETC.
